Bhagwan Mahavir wildlife Sanctuary covers an area of 240 sq. km.

Located towards the eastern boundaries of Goa state, on the slopes of the Western Ghats. Panaji is at road distance of little over than 50 km, while the road distance between Margao and sanctuary is nearly 55 km.

Kadamba Transportation Corporation have regular bus service for Bhagwan Mahaveer Wildlife Sanctuary from Panjim and Margao. GTDC is conducting Saturday and Sunday special sight seeing tours during peak tourist season. Taxies, auto rickshaws and tourist vehicles are also available.

Bhagwan Mahavir Wildlife sanctuary has a mix type vegetation, a blend of tropical evergreen, semi-evergreen and moist deciduous forests.

 Easily visible plant species includes Terminalia, Lagerstromia , Xylia, and Dalbergia.

Most commonly sighted animals are Gaur, Panther, Mouse Deer, Barking Deer, Leopards, Spotted Deer, Jungle Cats, Malayan Giant Squirrels.

More than 200 bird species are reported to get shelter at Bhagwan Mahavir Wildlife. Some of the prominent birds are Indian Black Woodpecker, Paradise Fly Catcher, the Malabar Pied Hornbill, Fairy Blue Bird, Kingfishers, Drongo, Barbets, Wag tails and Great Indian Horn Bill .

With the presence of Pythons, Cobras and some other poisonous snakes  Bhagwan Mahaveer Wildlife sanctuary is not perfect safe place for trekkers.

Soon after the monsoons and before the peak summer, October - March is the best time for Bhagwan Mahavir Sanctuary Goa tour.

Goa tourism department provide limited accommodation close to sanctuary but there are number of hotels and other facilities for the tourist stay around the Bhagwan Mahaveer Wildlife Sanctuary.

Dudhsagar Falls, Devil Canyon and Ancient Mahadeva Temple of Tambadi Surla are the other prime tourists attractions on travel of this part of Goa.
