Divar is a small beautiful island situated just about 12 km from the Panjim, the capital city of beach paradise Goa. This quite peaceful and picturesque island is renowned for the historic annual celebration called Bonderam festival.

According to history of Goa, during the rule of Portuguese, native people were restricted to take land in the areas flagged by the rulers. Gomantaks were not ready to be agree with this non justifying rule hence the started protesting against this law by knocking down all the flags, the agitation was on till the withdrawal of this disputed rule. Since that time fourth Saturday of August month is celebrated as the victory of common citizens and this become famous as Bonderam festival.

On this day [4th Saturday of August] people of Bonderam village, decorate their houses very colorfully, take out massive parade and create a carnival atmosphere. Enthusiasm gets new heights and definitions of celebrations with beats of traditional Goan music and dance. Mock fights with toy weapons by the groups of villagers is the signatory and integral part of Bonderam festival.

As this festival is celebrated during the non peak tourist season so most of people on Goa tour are not aware of this.
