Surely no body who ever visited Goa,
will try and dare to put an acclamatory mark on the statement that
"who ever added Dream Destination in the tourism vocabulary,
positively have done this, only after visiting Beach Paradise Goa".
This tiny Indian state is such scenic, picturesque, enrich with
numerous aqua terrestrial attractions and highly richer with tourism
infra structure that no other destination will dare to challenge the
royal status held by Goa on world tourism map. Most appropriate time
for looking at the real and unique customs and traditions of the
Goa, is while the natives are engaged with celebrations of community
festivals like Shigmo and Chowrang etc. significant display of these
festivals is the unique and specific blend of Music and Dance
reflecting traditions and customs. Native Kubins comes out dresses
up in white dhoti with ghonghroos tied at ankle, white flowers in
the hairs and Garlands kissing the neck.
What the general assumption is about the life style of Goa is that
here life means hanging out at sea shore, laying under the singing
and Swaying coconut tree with a wine or bear glass is the hand is
not the real picture of life at Goa. The important difference is
native of Goa are a bit more well familiar with and masters in the
art of enjoying the life.
Being under the Portuguese colonization for some centuries life
style of Goans appears a bit difference from the rest of India, as
here one will find a higher importance to late night parties,
parties of long duration, dance and music when compared with rest of
India. Konkani language used by most of native is most significant
evidence for the cultural heritage in the practice here as Konkani
is very close to Marathi language and have Devnagiri script, used by
most of Indian languages, with many Portuguese words and accent
which resemble more with Portuguese.
Tribal or native Goans holds a specific life style a bit different
from the recent inhabitants of this land where ample opportunities
are available for the sea to kiss the land. Gowdas, [Hindus with
unspecified hierarchical order], Kubins, [Short structured,
hardworking community with faith in simplicity and ancient life
style] Velips [historically belongs to stone age and believed to be
one of the sub-castes of the Kunbis ] and Dhangars [the shepherds
community with a semi-nomadic lifestyle] compromises the tribal
world of Goa. Dance, Music, exotic flavored cuisines and Feni [wine
extracted from Cashew nut] are the integral part of life style of
Goans. |
