About Celebrations of Shigmo |
|
In the Goan villages celebration of
Shigmo Utsav goes on from 9th moon day to full-moon day in the last
Hindu month Phalguna. 11th Moon day to the 15th moon day are
considered as the peak of festival, during these days people come
out in colorful dresses and enjoy the drum beats with dances. Folk
groups presents vibrant performances during the celebration. |

Holi - Rang Pachami |
|
Rang Panchami [Full moon day] is the
main festival day, on this day people throw Gulal [Dry color] and
liquid colors at each other. Shigmo is different from the
traditional Holi festival of north India, in the sense that during
few days ahead of festival, Goan people are used to avoid non
vegetarian food and all intoxicants.
