Zatra [Jatra] of Shantadurga is among
the most popular social and religious festival of Goa, the tiny
Indian state with harmonious mix of variant creeds of human
population. In the Goa state there are three important temples of
Goddess Shantadurga, located at Kavlem, Pernem and Footrope. Some
other places [Cities & Villages] of Goa like Calangute, Mangueshi,
Karmali, Nagueshi, Velinga, Ramnathi, Mapusam, Madki, Mala-Panaji,
Kundai, Mashel, Shiroda, Amona, Khandepar, Borim, Mulgaon and
Kapileshwari also haves temples housing Goddess Shantadurga.
Several thousands of devotees gathered at the Dhargali in Pernem for
a colorful procession with which the devotees take the deity out of
the temple for the day. At night, beautifully decorated chariots
with the idol of the Goddess Shantadurga take rounds of the nearby
areas and spread goodwill and cheer all around. |
