St. Anne Church Goa, commonly called Santana by the local people, is among the few Indian churches renowned world over for the splendid and beautiful architecture. Architectural excellence of St. Anne Church is one of the finest illustration for the blend of Indian and European architectural styles. Located on the banks of river Siridao in a small Goan village Talaulim, St. Anne Church was reconstructed by Mons Francisco do Rego with his own money and some contribution from the villagers. but his death didn't allow him to complete the construction work, which was completed afterwards by Father Antonio Francisco da Cunha.
Main altar of St. Anne Church is dedicated to St. Anne- the mother of Mary. There are a few stories about the name of this fascinating church of Goa, the most popular and widely known story goes like this.
History of Goa says that during the rule of Portuguese on Goa, Christianity was under constant expansion in the human societies of Goa. Some time around 1577 a few devotees purchase land in Tiswadi and a local priest was assigned for the conversions of the villagers of Talaulim, who started to construct a small monastery on this holy site called Quinta de Sant Ana.
During the time of construction a villager named Bartalomeu Marchon was reported to saw an old woman coming down from hill, claiming her residence at the site of construction while another old Brahmin lady facing serious health problems dreamed the same lady, calling herself Anne, wanted a house in the village. As the old Brahmin lady was miraculously recovered after this dream and local priest was failed to sanctify the holy place in honor of any known Saint hence it was decided to name the place as St. Anne Church.

St. Anne Church, the most renowned and distinguished church in Goa, is located in a small village Talaulim on the banks of Siridao river. The village is situated near Goa Velha and easily accessible from Mapusa, Panaji and other major cities of Goa.

St. Anne Church is famous for annual feast held every year on 26th July, which is celebrated through out Goa and popularly known as Touceachem Feast or Cucumber Feast.
