Fort Goa |

|
Terekhol
Fort is the testimony of history of Maratha kings ruling the some
parts of Goa because this majestic fort was constructed in the 17th
centaury by Maharaja Khem Sawant Bhonsle, who was ruler of
Sawantwadi. Terekhol Fort was captured by Portuguese Viceroy Dom
Pedro Miguel de Almeida in the year 1746 and was renovated and
rebuilt in the year 1764 with the construction of St. Anthony
church. In the present days this church is opened to public only
during the annual feast held in May. Goa born viceroy Dr. Bernado
Peres Da Silva used this fort for his armed revolt in 1825 but
Portuguese succeeded in recapturing this fort. After the end of
Portuguese rule in Goa, Terekhol fort was abandoned and started to
turn in ruins. At present a part of fort is converted into Heritage
hotel where as remains is in ruin status. |
